Nominate now for the National Disability Awards

Nominations for the 2015 National Disability Awards open today, giving Australians the chance to celebrate the people and organisations that have made a positive impact on the lives of people with disability.  The Assistant Minister for Social Services, Senator the Hon Mitch Fifield encouraged people to nominate a person, organisation or initiative in their community that is helping to break down barriers and improve the lives of people with disability.
Nominations are open in the following six categories:

YMCA Great Tasmania Escape

Experience Tasmania -  fabulous food, breathtaking nature and loads of art and culture! Highlights include: Tahune Air Walk, a guided farm and food tour with Herbaceous Tours, Mona Gallery, Mt Wellington, Royal Botanical Gardens, Richmond Historic Village and Cadbury tour.  The trip includes 5 nights’ share accommodation in Hobart with all meals included (Drinks other than water are up to you!

Friendship Group – Interchange

Friendship Group is a social activity group for young adults.  The group meets monthly, for a social outing on a Friday evening or during the weekend.  Days and times vary to ensure that participants have the opportunity to attend.  The Program Coordinator organises the monthly activity, which is supported by our professional Support Workers, with the aim to also include Interchange Central Gippsland volunteers.  Participants are encouraged and supported to be independent by choosing the activities, ordering their own meals and paying for their own activities.

Bairnsdale All Ability Water Programs

Term 4 - Water Exercise

Special Olympics Gippsland Region

Special Olympics Gippsland is one of the many Special Olympics programs around Australia transforming the lives of people with an intellectual disability through regular sport, competition and personal development. Our focus is on helping all people with an intellectual disability reach their personal best, regardless of their skills.
Currently in Gippsland Special Olympics supports athletes participate in Basketball, Swimming, Tenpin Bowling, Golf and Athletics.

Latrobe Valley All-Ability Cricket – Starting Term 4 2015

This program is parent-run and driven, so caters directly to the needs of kids with special needs in the local area. During the sessions a variety of games and activities are played to learn and develop new skills, activities are modified so that everyone can ‘have a go!’ Participants can also benefit socially by making new friends and feeling part of a team.  Modified equipment is available to suit a range of ability levels.

Sailability Programs

Sailability Programs
Sailability is a sailing program for people with disabilities, providing sailing in a social, recreational and competitive activities.  Gippsland has a number of Sailability programs.

Gippsland All Abilities Social Group

Gippsland All Abilities Social Group
Are you keen to go out and have fun, socialise and meet new friends on the last Friday of each month.   For adults 20+( who live in the Gippsland Region and are able to get to and from the activities themselves (unless specified). Carers are welcome if required.  Next activity is a meal at Traralgon Bowls Club this is open to meet new friends over a chat and meal.
